Katy Hayward Cup - Lead Me Home - Paikea/Humpback Whale & Friends

This artwork follows a paikea / humpback whale guiding a pīwakawaka, a manta ray and a Māui dolphin — a gentle reminder of the way we look out for one another, and how we find our way by following those who lead with care. It’s inspired by life in Aotearoa, where the ocean is never far from us — part of our everyday, our memories, and our sense of home.

A portion of proceeds from this cup supports the incredible mahi of the ‘New Zealand Whale and Dolphin Trust’.

Through decades of dedicated research, the Trust works to better understand and protect Aotearoa’s marine life — including Hector’s dolphins in Banks Peninsula, sperm whales in Kaikōura, and bottlenose dolphins in Fiordland. Their work has helped guide important protections that reduce human impact, and they continue to support research on species like humpback whales to ensure these taonga can thrive for generations to come.

Art work by Northland based artist, Katy Hayward. This drawing was inspired by her aroha / love for going on beautiful bushwalks with her little family, and a special nod to her daughter’s obsession for fancy head pieces at this time in her life.
